Okay, okay, so maybe two days and nights at Crater Lake was pushing it. As beautiful as it is (and believe you me, it's beyond beautiful), there's not a whole lot to do here. Our plan for today was to (attempt to) take the 1.1 mile hike down to the lake's shore (don't ask how we were planning to get Josie back up the 1.1 miles). According to weather.com, it was supposed to be 74 degrees. Perfect! But, then we woke up (after a restless night of "sleep") and discovered that it was c-c-cold outside. 38 to be exact. We decided to drive around the lake instead and see if the weather on the other side was any better. Along the way, the temperature dipped further, the clouds rolled it, the wind picked up, and it started snowing. On July 2nd. So the hike was off. We stalled as much as we could in the car but eventually had to head back to the room because... as previously mentioned, there's not a whole lot to do here. If you can even believe it, the rooms in the lodge don't even have a TV. Gasp!
So, long story short, Crater Lake is gorgeous and amazing and all sorts of other over-used, dramatic adjectives. I strongly urge all of you to make the drive to see it with your own eyes if you've never had the pleasure. But if you've got kids, do yourself a favor and stay one night.
